DITIS was initiated in 1999 and was funded for a two-year period by the Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation. It was co-developed by the University of Cyprus, PASYKAF, NetU Consultants Ltd, and WinMob Technologies Ltd. The Cyprus Telecommunications Authority (CYTA), Ericsson (through S.A. Petrides Ltd), Microsoft, and the Cyprus Development Bank (CDB) also provided support for DITIS phase I. Many of these sponsors are continuing to support DITIS through phase II.
